Thank you for your interest in joining the Board of Directors at Monterey County Housing, Inc. (MCHI). Your leadership and dedication can help shape the future of affordable housing in Monterey County.

Application Process

The process to become a board member is straightforward:

Review and agree to the Board Rules and Expectations
Complete and submit the online application
Participate in an interview with the Board
Obtain confirmation from the current Board of Directors via resolution

You can submit your application online by pressing the submit button. You will receive confirmation from MCHI within 24 hours.

MCHI Board Overview

📅 Estimated Time Commitment

  • The Board meets every other month for approximately two (2) hours.

🛑 Voluntary Role

  • This is a volunteer position with no financial commitment required.

📍 Meeting Location

  • Meetings are generally held at MCHI’s office conference room at:
    150 Cayuga Street, Suite 7, Salinas, CA
  • Occasionally, meetings may take place at MCHI-owned properties across Monterey County.

💰 Financial Commitment

  • There is no obligation to contribute money or participate in fundraising.

Board Member Responsibilities

As a board member, you will:

Contribute your time and expertise to support MCHI’s mission
Understand and uphold MCHI’s mission, services, and policies
Work collaboratively with the Board to assess and adjust strategies based on community needs
Be a visionary leader willing to collaborate with others
Attend Board and Committee meetings (currently two hours every second Wednesday of the month)
Serve on at least one committee to help guide MCHI’s initiatives
Advocate for affordable housing and be a spokesperson for MCHI
Leverage your skills and experience to further MCHI’s efforts
Provide guidance and support to the Executive Director
Understand MCHI’s financial situation and make responsible decisions
Approve major actions, programs, and services
Follow conflict-of-interest and confidentiality policies
